This year’s Crawford Gives campaign will help build a Pet Retreat at the Greenhouse Shelter, creating a safe space for survivors and their pets to heal together.
For many survivors, leaving an abusive relationship also means leaving behind a beloved pet. Because pets are often used as a tool of control, that impossible choice keeps many people from reaching safety.
We are not asking you to fund a building. We are asking you to make sure that the next time someone sits in our living room and cries about their beloved pet, the answer is: bring them.
Every Dollar Here Does Three Things:
- It removes the reason a survivor tells themselves they can’t leave.
- It buys back the one relationship an abuser tried hardest to destroy – because for many survivors, the pet is the reason to get up, the source of routine, the only thing in the house that was never cruel.
- It keeps the money local. Local contractors. Local trades. A building this community has trusted for nearly 50 years, made ready for the next 50.
